The semidesert shrublands are on the western side (Colorado Plateau Region) and south-central side (San Luis Valley) of the state. Its elevation is from about 5000 to 7000 feet above sea level. It is made up of desert canyonlands and open sagebrush shrublands. On the Life Zone map below they are labeled yellow and light green on western and south-central side of the state.
Within the Colorado Plateau region, there is the Roan Plateau, Uncompahgre Plateau, Grand Mesa, and Flattop Mountains. Different rivers cross it and provide important riparian life zones.They are the Colorado River, Gunnison River, White River, Yampa River, and Delores River. The San Luis Valley is in the south-central part of the state. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains and San Juan Mountains sorround the valley. The Rio Grande River flows from these mountains and through the San Luis Valley. In the Map
